Herniated Discs

Pain and Symptoms of a Herniated Disc

When someone has a herniated disc, they may feel numbness/tingling, or shooting pain down the leg and foot. The pain is generally constant with little relief in position, medication or activity. In severe cases muscle weakness in the leg and foot may occure. Emergency medical attention must be addressed if there is numbness/tingling in the genital areas, changes in bowel or bladder function, or progressive leg weakness.

What Causes a Herniated Disc?

Each vertebrae in your spine is sandwiched between a cushioned disc. This disc supports the compressive and torsional forces associated with everyday activities. If however, these forces overload the discs, a fluid core begins to push out causing a herniation. The diagram to the right, illustrates how a herniation develops and how it can pinch the spinal cord or nerves.

Our Three Phased Approach to Your Care

ADJUSTMENTS: Chiropractic adjustments are highly skilled manual treatments that safely and comfortably restore natural movement and positioning of your joints. Our office utilizes both gentle hands on and instrument assisted adjusting techniques.

SPINAL DECOMPRESSION: Therapy is gentle and comfortable. It simply requires you to lie on a table, and within moments, the device will begin to relax your spine. This process creates a gentle vacuum that sucks the misaligned spinal disc into place.

LASER THERAPY: Laser therapy is a safe, painless way to accelerate healing and reduce inflammation. The device generates infrared laser that can penetrate deep into the disc allowing the tissue to heal twice as fast. There is no heat or pain with this therapy and has no side effects.
