WHAT IS FIBROMYALGIA?

The term Fibromyalgia comes from the word “fibro” meaning fibrous tissue (i.e. ligaments, tendons, or scar tissue), “my” meaning muscles, and “algia” meaning pain. It is estimated that 4-6 million Americans are affected by this condition. It was only in 1990 that the American College of Rheumatology defined the criteria for such illness. These include having a history of widespread pain and feeling pain at 11 out of 18 specified tender points on the body. Although the cause of Fibromyalgia is obscure, research has shown that the majority of cases occur after an traumatic accident or illness.fibromyalgia treatment

HOW WE MAY HELP

At Lakes Region Chiropractic, we will conduct an examination to determine if your symptoms are related to Fibromyalgia. Our primary goals are to 1) Diagnose the underlying cause of your condition 2) offer natural treatment options that address both the cause and symptoms of Fibromyalgia, and 3) educate patients on ways to improve their overall health and wellbeing. Specifically, we utilize a combination of chiropractic, nutritional counseling, and rehabilitative medicine which may improve your condition without the use of drugs. Chiropractors provide adjustments to joints that have lost their normal mobility. Chiropractic adjustments may help improve joint mobility and reduce inflammation, thus, allowing injured areas to heal better. Personalized exercises specific to your condition will be prescribed as part of your continued therapy. They help strengthen and support weak areas and are designed to be done comfortably at home. During treatment we will advise you on developing healthy lifestyle habits and avoiding activities that may be aggravate your condition. As treatment progresses, your condition will be closely monitored with regular progress reports and periodic re-evaluations.
